Buck Knives
A buck knife is a kind of folding lock-blade knife whose blade folds into its handle as with a common pocket knife. One of its features is that it locks into place when opened so that it cannot close unless the release is pressed.
The term is a generalization of Buck Knife. Buck Knives is one of the leading American manufacturer of knives but it is especially famous for producing the first successful and practical folding lock blade knife which was publicly introduced in 1964. Folding lock-blade knives and “Buck Knife” has became a household name and that it was strongly associated with “Buck” in the mind of the public. The Buck design was much copied and so that a buck knife, in common genericization, has come to mean any folding lock-blade of the same design, even though Buck Knife is yet a trademark and not only limited to folding lock-blades type of knives.
