Excellent knife for the money

Review Date: September 24, 2007

I have had this knife for a little over a month now and am extremely impressed with it. The first thing I noticed after taking it out of the box was that it is extremely sharp for coming from the factory, most knives need to be tuned up a little coming from the package but not this one. The other thing you will notice is that it is extremely fast much quicker than a traditional thumb stud, as close as you can come to an auto knife without being military or law enforcement.

One thing you might not like is that the rubber textured insert on the handle under the pocket clip sticks a little, making it a more secure fit to whatever you clip it to. Being in law enforcement this does not bother me, in fact it is a bonus as far as weapon retention is concerned when carried on duty.

All in all this is a very good knife for the money and amazon was by and far the lowest price I could find anywhere on the net.
A great knife

When I first got this knife I was concerned about the locking mechanism. Once the knife is locked open you push "forward" on the thumb stud/lock to unlock the knife. I'm much more comferable with pulling the thumb stud back towards me. How ever once I became used to this lock it was not so much of a hassle. I learned to do it with one hand but it was not as natural as other knives I have had.
The rubber insert on the grib does make the knife "stick" in your pocket a little more then normal. How ever as the rubber wears down this is less of a problem.
The knife is very appealing to the eye and fits the hand like it was ment to be held. Also this knives blade steal is an upgrade from what Kershaw normally works with. Finally a Kershaw knife with modern blade steal.
The "assisted opening technology" is great. Once you get the blade going it wants to open the rest of the way.
A full size Kershaw with modern blade steal, great eye appeal and Speed safe Technology all at a very afordable price. I'm glad I bought the knife.
I carry 3, what more can I say?

As I stated, I carry three. 2 with the rubberized handle and one with the alum body. The alum body is a bit slippery when you've got dry hands but I use that one as my daily use, with the other two Cold Steels I carry as well. Different tools for different situations. Anyway, I'm really enjoying the blades and would recommend them to anyone. From daily use to tactical (self defense). I study the blade and stick arts. Yes, that's five I carry. So what are you waiting for? I'd recommend two! Hope this helps.
Fantastic purchase

This knife is great. I did a lot of research before I bought it, and it paid off. My friend has a $300 Blackhawk and would always brag about his knife, but even he was impressed with this knife and the ease of opening. Didn't hurt that this knife was 1/6 the price of his.
Kershaw 'Speed Bump' assisted opener folding knife

Review Date: August 22, 2009
Reviewer: Ken,
The Speed Bump is my favorite knife: this is a RE-PURCHASE. I lost my first one, in daily use for a year.
Something this good is a rare find in life.

The 'speed safe' assisted opening blade design is very convenient. The knife has a long blade (legal, just under 4") with a very long cutting edge, yet is 2 ounces lighter than any other assisted opener of similar blade length. The blade's 'bump' makes cutting tough objects like rope, boxes or wound plastic sheeting much easier by applying high draw forces to an edge cut.

The contoured shape fits easily into my large hand, with a very secure grip.
Folded, it slides easily into my pocket; the clip makes it stay put even on a motorbike.
Sometimes I get an item that's too large to swallow at a Chinese restaurant (Pork chop?) Consider a BBQ with plastic knives. The Speed Bump's grey color keeps it discrete while razoring thru your dinner.
It's the best pocket knife I've ever had. I wouldn't be without it.

*It takes a little bit of practice to operate the blade unlocking device (which is good, I guess)
*Sometimes a little black disk that is part of the mechanism can slide sideways a little bit in its hole,
and can block the mechanism. A small bit of finger pressure puts it back in place, and all is well.
*Just don't use it and accidentally leave the knife somewhere. (D'OH!)
Best Knife ever
